(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams set three new national qualifying marks on Saturday at the Cody McBride Invitational in Phoenix.
Sophomore Katherine Bruno (Canyon del Oro HS) took first place and set a new personal-record in the 800 meter race as she finished with a national qualifying time of 2 minutes, 21.57 seconds. She wasn’t finished as she took first place in the 1,500 meter race with a time of 4:53.68. Her time gave her another national qualifier and put her No. 3 in the nation.
In men’s competition, sophomore Tyler Valenzuela (Canyon del Oro HS) took second place in the men’s pole vault and earned a national qualifying vault of 14 feet, 7.25-inches (4.45 meters).
Freshman Christian Edgerson placed first in the long jump with a leap of 22-feet, 7.75-inches (6.90 meters).
The Aztecs will compete in the ACCAC conference championships on Friday at Mesa Community College. Events begin at 5:00 p.m.
