Siml and Fair improve on national qualifiers at Jim Mielke Indoor Invitational

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field team competed in their final regular season indoor meet on Saturday at the West Campus track.

Freshman Raelynn Fair (South Mountain HS) improved on her national qualifier as she took first place in the long jump with a mark of 18-feet, 3-inches (5.56 meters). She is ranked No. 9 in the country for the event.

Freshman Mary Siml took first place in the 1,000 meters race and improved her national qualifying time to 3 minutes, 10.13 seconds. She improved by almost two seconds from last week’s finish of 3:12. 07.

The Aztecs will send 11 athletes to compete in 11 events at the NJCAA National Indoor Championships. Here’s a look at where some of the Aztecs rank nationally in their respected events:

Sophomore Hailey Myles (Boulder Creek HS) – No. 6 in the women’s triple jump (38-feet, 9.75-inches)

Sophomore Anahiramar Lopez (Tucson HS) – No. 8 in the women’s high jump (5-feet, 3.25-inches)

Sophomore Tyler Valenzuela (Canyon del Oro HS) – No. 8 in the men’s pole vault (14-feet, 3.25-inches)

Freshman Jaylen Coleman – No. 9 in the men’s triple jump (48-feet, 1.25-inches)

Sophomore Mecca Marks (Desert Edge HS) – No. 10 in the women’s triple jump (36-feet, 9.50-inches)

The NJCAA Indoor National Championships will be Friday and Saturday, Mar. 1-2 at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS.
