Fimbres and Aztecs men’s golf take second place at the Pima CC Invitational

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s golf team closed out its second tournament of the season on Tuesday as it hosted the Pima CC Invitational at the Omni Tucson National Golf Resort.

The Aztecs finished second in the final team standings with 597 (299-298) points. They led after the first round but South Mountain Community College took the top spot after the final round as the Cougars finished six-strokes ahead with 591 (303-288).

Freshman Matthew Fimbres (Cienega HS) shot an even-par 72 and fell one stroke behind South Mountain’s Brandon Meyer for the individual title. Fimbres finished with a two-day total of 143 (71-72).

Freshmen Curtis Goldin (McClintock HS) and Samuel Salisbury (Walden Grove HS) each tied for seventh place. Goldin shot a 3-over par 75 in the final round and closed it out with a 151 (76-75). Salisbury shot 4-over par 76 for his score of 151 (75-76).

Sophomore Diego Cueva-Schraidt (Sabino HS) had a 4-stroke improvement from his first round as he tied for 15th with a 154 (79-75). Freshmen Cody Goza (Blue Ridge HS) and Dylan Mattson (Cieega HS) each shot a 156 (77-79) and tied for 18th.

The Aztecs took fifth place in their first tournament of the season in January.

The Aztecs will return to the golf course next week for the Estrella Mountain Invitational on Feb. 25-26 at the Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park, AZ.
