Cummings and Ochoa lead offense as Aztecs baseball sweeps Southern Idaho

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College baseball team (9-3) bounced back in its doubleheader against the College of Southern Idaho on Saturday to close out the CSN Coyote Classic in Henderson, NV.

Freshmen Cole Cummings and Angel Ochoa (Canyon del Oro HS) produced on offense as each had four RBIs and three runs scored on the day. Cummings went a combined 5 for 9 while Ochoa was 4 for 8.

·         Game 1: Pima CC Aztecs 8, College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles 7 (8 innings): Cummings hit the eventual game-winning RBI triple in the top of the 8th inning to score sophomore Garett Lake.

Ochoa hit a solo home run in the 1st inning and added RBI doubles in the 3rd and 4thinnings.
Ochoa was 3 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Cummings finished 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Lake was 1 for 2 with three runs scored.

Sophomore Phillip Sikes pitched the final two innings in relief and picked up the win (2-0). He gave up one hit with five strikeouts and two walks.

·         Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 10, College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles 8: The Aztecs rallied from a 5-0 deficit after the 1st inning and took the lead for good with a seven-run 6th inning.
Sophomore Rafael Padilla (Nogales HS) hit a two-run RBI single in the 3rd inning to score Cummings and freshman Karl Koerper to make it 5-3.

The Aztecs did all their damage in the 6thinning with two outs. Cummings hit a two-run RBI double to put the Aztecs ahead 6-5 and Ochoa followed with an RBI triple to plate Cummings. Freshmen Stockton Pringle (Sahuaro HS), JJ Rollon (Skyline HS), Koerper and Padilla all added RBI hits in the inning.

Cummings finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Ochoa was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Padilla went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Koerper was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Sophomore Austin Bryan (Sahuarita HS) settled in after the 1st inning. Between the 2nd and 5th innings, he gave up one hit with four strikeouts and two walks. He picked up the win (3-0) after throwing a total of five and one-third innings giving up five runs (five earned) on five hits with five strikeouts and four walks.
