(Coolidge, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (4-5, 2-2 in ACCAC) had a rough time containing the Central Arizona College offense on Saturday in Coolidge.
The Aztecs surrendered 30 runs to the Vaqueras (14-3, 7-1). Sophomore Maria Vanezza Caldera (Tucson HS) was a bright spot for the Aztecs at the plate as she went 3 for 5 with two RBIs and two doubles.
Game 1: Central Arizona College Vaqueras 10, Pima CC Aztecs 2 (5 innings): The Aztecs took the early lead in the 1st inning but the Vaqueras scored 10 unanswered runs.
Caldera and Amaya Turner-Vizcarra (Tucson HS) hit back-to-back RBI singles to put the Aztecs on the board in the 1st inning. Caldera went 2 for 2 with an RBI, a walk and a double while Turner-Vizcarra finished 1 for 3. Sophomore Alese Casper was 1 for 3 with a run scored.
Freshman Bianca Castillo (Rio Rico HS) suffered her first loss (3-1) as she pitched three innings giving up five runs (five earned) on six hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

Game 2: Central Arizona College Vaqueras 20, Pima CC Aztecs 7 (5 innings): The Vaqueras took control with 10 runs in the 1st inning and seven runs in the 2nd.
Caldera and freshman Devynn Marshall (Shadow Ridge HS) hit RBI doubles in the 3rdinning.
The Aztecs put up a five-spot in the 7th inning. Freshman Giselle Munoz (SalpointeCatholic HS) cleared the bases with a three-run RBI double. She scored on freshman Hope Adams’ (Benson HS) RBI double. Sophomore Ariana Gomez (Sahuaro HS) hit an RBI single to score Adams.
Munoz finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Sophomore Mackenzie Judge (Ironwood Ridge HS) went 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Caldera was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Marshall and Adams each had an RBI and a run scored.
Freshman Abril Nerey (Rio Rico HS) took the loss (1-1) as she threw one-third of an inning giving up seven runs (seven earned) on six hits with one walk.
The Aztecs will hit the road on Tuesday when they play at Arizona Western College in an ACCAC Division I doubleheader in Yuma. The first game starts at noon.
