Signing Day at Catalina High School

(Tucson, AZ) Troy Hutchison

Wednesday at Catalina High School was filled with excitement, love and looking towards to the future. Baseball players Alexander N. Phillips, Vincent J. Rifici, Cameron N. Musser and John W.R. MacDonald all prepared to sign their letters of intent as their coach Shane Folsom, friends, family and teammates watched their hard work pay off.

First to sign was Musser, who pitches for the Trojans. Musser announced that he will be signing with Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas. Musser spoke of the gratitude he had for the help he received during the recruiting process from his family and coach. When deciding on where he would continue his education and playing career, one of the many things that helped him settle on Kansas Wesleyan was that head coach Bill Neale was eager to have him.

Following Musser, fellow pitcher Alexander Phillips announced that he would be signing with Concordia University Ann Arbor in Michigan. Phillips talked about how excited he is to get this process out of the way so that he and his teammates can focus on the rest of the year. Plus, he loves the winning atmosphere that coach Zach Johnston has created in Ann Arbor.

Vincent Rifici, who plays third base for Catalina, went next. Rifici will be signing with Rainy River Community College in International Falls, Minnesota. The two things that helped him decide in favor of Rainy River was the winning atmosphere and coach Josh Koenig, who has led the RRCC baseball team for the past nine years.

Finally, first baseman John MacDonald announced that he will be signing with Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.  He said Southwestern was his choice because head coach J.C. Bunch made him feel welcomed to the Southwestern family. He is excited to be a part of a rebuild and help Southwestern get back to winning ways.

Congratulations to the players, their families and the Catalina High School coaching staff on this letter of intent day. You can see these student-athletes and their teammates at their next game on Friday, the 13th of April at 4 pm when they take on Poston Butte High School from San Tan Valley.
