Crusaders no match for top seeded Lions

Sean Scott – Tucson, AZ

The temperatures may have cooled off, but the Lions from Pusch Ridge Christian Academy remain blazing hot.

The duo of Christian Festis at quarterback and Mitch Maas at running back started off the action early as they accounted for 100% of the Lion’s offence on the first drive.  Festis had over 40 yards rushing and Maas  scored the 4 yard touchdown only taking 4 minutes off the clock.

The Crusaders from Northwest Christian were never a threat and if their first possession was any indication of their hopes in the game, they were dashed early.  A huge sack in the first two plays caused a 3 and out.

The Lions gave opportunities elsewhere on their second drive with Tamerat Mcleod doing most of the running work.  A passing touchdown from Festis to Gavin Davis capped the drive and the Lions quickly had a two touchdown lead with 6 minutes remaining in the first quarter.

After another short possession from the Crusaders, the Lions looked to go up by 3 scores before the 1st quarter even elapsed.

Star quarterback Christian Festis had a huge pass to Mcleod and then ran the ball in from 41 yards to put the Lions up by 21 points.

The Crusaders started to mount some offensive pressure in the second quarter, only to lose it with a turnover on downs.  There was no scoring for either team in the second quarter.

Things started to look up for the Crusaders as they scored first in the second half on a 2 yard rushing touchdown.  However, they missed the extra point, which looked to deflate any momentum they had built on the long drive.

The Lions put up 21 more points with the combination of Festis, Mcleod, and Dakota Haynes.  The Lions more or less taunted the Crusaders the rest of the game with a series of turnovers late in the 4th quarter.

Final Score 42-6
