Aztecs men’s basketball fall in overtime vs. Chandler-Gilbert

 

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (5-1, 2-1 in ACCAC) suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday in a back and forth battle with Chandler-Gilbert Community College (6-0, 3-0).

The Aztecs surrendered a 9-0 run in overtime and couldn’t catch up as they fell to the Coyotes 98-94.

The game featured 16 lead changes and 12 ties. Late in regulation, the Aztecs took an 81-75 lead after sophomore Alize Travis hit a pair of free throws. The Coyotes went on 6-0 run to tie it at 81-81 with 35.6 second left. The Coyotes turned the ball over and the Aztecs had a chance to win it with 4.1 seconds left. Sophomore Keven Biggs (Cienega HS) missed a shot inside and sophomore Isaiah Murphy (Cienega HS) missed a put-back to send the game into overtime.

The first half featured 10 lead changes as the Aztecs trailed 41-40 at the break.

Freshman Abram Carrasco (Cholla HS) scored a team-high 23 points off the bench to go along with six assists and two steals. Biggs scored 17 of his 20 points in the first half. Murphy scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half.

Freshman Robert Wilson (Salpointe Catholic HS) fell short of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds while freshman Jeremiah Bailey finished with eight points and 11 rebounds. Travis contributed nine points and seven assists.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Gym on Saturday when they host Glendale Community College in an ACCAC conference match-up. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
