Aztecs men’s soccer decimate Phoenix College 

 

 

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (10-1-2) displayed dominant play on Friday in its match against Phoenix College (8-2-3).

The No. 8 ranked Aztecs earned their fourth shutout victory of the season as they beat the No. 9 ranked Bears 3-0 at Kino North Grandstand avenging their only loss of the season. The Aztecs fell to the Bears 2-1 last month in Phoenix. The Aztecs have won eight of their last nine games.

Sophomore Julian Gaona (Tucson HS) put the Aztecs on the board in the 18th minute. Fellow sophomore Chris Cooper (University HS) made it 2-0 with his goal in the 40th minute. The Aztecs held the Bears without a shot on goal in the first half.

Sophomore AJ Valenzuela (Desert View HS) helped seal it with a breakaway goal in the 79th minute.

The Aztecs outshot the Bears 6-1 for the game. Freshman David Silva finished the game with one save.

The Aztecs will have a tough test on Tuesday when they play at No. 5 ranked Yavapai College at 6:00 p.m. The Aztecs and the Roughriders played to a 1-1 tie on Sept. 1 at Kino North Grandstand.
