Smith, Hernandez and Verdugo scores two goals as Aztecs women’s soccer overpower South Mountain  

 

 

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (8-3-1) showed its dominance early against South Mountain Community College on Tuesday at Kino North Stadium.

The Aztecs scored six goals in the first half and went on to defeat the Cougars (0-11) 9-0 for their fifth shutout win of the season.

Sophomores Jahmonique Smith (Cienega HS), Alexis Hernandez (Ironwood Ridge HS) and freshman Annalisa Verdugo (Pueblo HS) each netted two goals. Sophomores Daelyn Mayer (Walden Grove HS), Destiny Kelly (Sahuaro HS) and freshman Michelle Sigala (Palo Verde HS) each scored a goal for the Aztecs.

Freshman Mackenzie Bernal (Tanque Verde HS) was in front of the net and finished with one save. The Aztecs outshot the Cougars 23-1 for the game.

The Aztecs swept the head-to-head meeting with the Cougars. Pima won 4-2 last month in Phoenix.

The Aztecs will return to Kino North Stadium on Saturday when they host No. 6 Phoenix College at 4:30 p.m.
