Can Warrior Block Break Through in 2017 in the 520 Sports Talk Spotlight Game of the Week

After coming out of the gate with a fury against Rincon, the Pueblo Warriors set their sights on their Southside Neighbor the Blue Devils of Sunnyside High.

These two long time rivals meet up at 7 pm Friday for Pueblo’s Home Opener. Both teams expect noting short of an all out war.

Last year, the Blue Devils squeaked out a 10-6 victory to maintain their streak after a bad snap on a punt attempt sealed the win.

Pueblo Head Coach Brandon Sanders has put a lot of emphasis on this game to snap the streak that started thirteen years ago. The stadium should be packed as family versus family and neighbors collide with the pride of the Southside at stake.

The Blue Devils pose to be a much more difficult opponent than the Rincon did in Week 1. Pueblo had little difficulty dispensing the Rangers at their house with several long runs from senior quarterback Dominic Carrillo.

The Nogales Apaches felt the wrath of the Blue Devils last week in a twenty point loss 36-16. Sunnyside didn’t look ahead and handled Nogales’s with relative ease.

Pueblo is currently ranked 18th in 4A and Sunnyside is ranked 22nd in 6A. The all time record between the two schools heavily favors the Blue Devils with a 25-3 record, but this may be the year the Warriors break through.
