Aztecs women’s soccer surrender three late goals in loss at Phoenix College

 

  

 

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (1-2, 1-2 in ACCAC) suffered a heartbreaker on the road on Tuesday at Phoenix College (3-0, 3-0).

The No. 20 ranked Aztecs fell 4-3 after giving up three goals in the final nine minutes of the game.

Sophomore Alexis Hernandez (Ironwood Ridge HS) scored two goals late in the first half to give the Aztecs a cushion. She broke the scoreless tie in the 37th minute with a goal assisted by freshman Kylee Martin (Sahuaro HS). Two minutes later, Hernandez found the back of the net again with an assist from freshman Marissa Cordero. The Bears cut the lead in half in the 40th minute as the Aztecs took a 2-1 lead into the break.

Freshman Taylor Reinhart put the Aztecs ahead 3-1 with a goal in the 52nd minute assisted by sophomore Emily Gallagher (Sahuaro HS).

The Bears scored in the 81st and the 87thminute to tie the game. They put in the go-ahead goal with 46 seconds remaining.

Sophomore Tara Kase (Buena HS) finished the game with three saves.

The Aztecs will be back at Kino on Friday when they host Cochise College at the North Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
