Empire shuts out Coolidge 31-0 behind run heavy offense and stout defense

Brad Smith Tucson, AZ

..

The game started with an Alex Verdugo pass for a first down, after that it was pretty much all the run game. As empire only attempted 9 passes, but ran for 391 yards and 5 tds. Empires first touchdown came on a Wyatt Jeffries 12 yard touchdown run.

Coolidge went 3 and out on their first series, as their offense never was really able to move the ball tonight.

On Empires second possession they moved the ball well, but failed to to get points because of a botched snap on a field goal.

The Ravens started out the second quarter with back to back big runs, taking a 13-0 lead after Quashad Washington broke a 21 yard td run with the extra point being blocked. The Ravens took a 19-0 lead into the half after Wyatt Jeffries scored his second touchdown on a 4 yard run.  Ravens Cody Pacheco got an interception right before the half to seal the first half shut out.

The second half didn’t start out any better for Coolidge as they went 3 and out, again. Jalen Smith then really broke the game open with a 56 yard touchdown run the 3rd quarter. The final touchdown came in the 4th quarter on another Wyatt Jeffries touchdown run from 4 yards out.. Jeffries finished with 117 yards rushing and 3 tds. The Ravens also had 2 other 100 yard rushers.. Jalen Smith with 100 yards rushing and a touchdown, and Quashad Washington with 140 yards rushing plus a touchdown as well..

It was a much better start to the season for empire than last year. Should be interesting to see how their season turns out, after a big 31-0 shut out at home to start the season.
