(Los Angeles, CA) The Arizona State football staff is now complete with the addition of Chris Hawkins as defensive backs coach, a move finalized today.
Hawkins, previously a graduate assistant at Pac-12 rival USC, takes the spot of Tony White, who had the position for two years before being elevated to defensive coordinator after the departure of Danny Gonzales.
At 24, Hawkins is believed to be the youngest assistant coach at a Power 5 school.
“I’m not necessarily surprised but this did come sooner than I expected. At the same time, I was ready for it. I’m excited about the opportunity and think this is a great fit for me. When I was done as a player I always knew I wanted to be a coach.”
Hawkins worked directly with the USC defensive backs. The USC secondary was fourth in the Pac-12 in passing yards allowed this season while also finishing fourth in the league in passes defended.
