Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (6-1, 3-1 in ACCAC) put one back in the win column on Saturday as the Aztecs stifled Glendale Community College with their pressure defense.
The Aztecs defeated the Gauchos (4-5, 0-3) 113-91 at the West Campus Gymnasium. Pima broke away early as they created three straight turnovers and converted them into baskets to take a 23-13 lead.
The Aztecs took a 53-35 lead at halftime and came back out with their pressure defense to begin the second half. Glendale finished the game with 22 turnovers.
The Aztecs were led by freshman Robert Wilson (Salpointe Catholic HS) and sophomore Keven Biggs (Cienega HS). Wilson scored 22 points on 9 for 13 shooting. He also had eight rebounds and two steals. Biggs scored 14 of his 22 points in the first half. He went 9 for 14 from the floor.
Sophomore Alize Travis and freshman Jeremiah Bailey posted double-doubles for the Aztecs. Travis had 10 points and 10 assists to go along with five rebounds and two steals. Bailey scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds (six offensive) to go along with three blocks.
Murphy scored 15 points as he went 10 for 12 from the free throw line. Freshman Elloheim Clark also scored in double figures with 14 points on 4 for 6 shooting.
The Aztecs will play at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, AZ on Wednesday. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
