(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (0-0-1) opened the 2019 season with a tough test on Saturday at Kino North Grandstand.
The No. 1 ranked Aztecs were forced to rally as they played 110 minutes against No. 14 Salt Lake Community College. The game finished in a 1-1 tie.
After a scoreless first half, the Bruins struck first with a goal in the 54th minute. The Aztecs showed more poise as the second half progressed and it paid off as sophomore Nico Walschburger scored inside the box with eight minutes left in regulation with an assist from fellow sophomore Yuki Jahara.
The Aztecs finished the game with six shots on goal while the Bruins had seven. Sophomore goalkeeper Nils Roth finished with six saves for the game.
The Aztecs will return to Kino North Stadium on Thursday when they host Paradise Valley Community College to begin ACCAC conference play. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
