Tucson, AZ –The Pima Community College softball team produced three representatives on the All-ACCAC conference team on Monday.
Sophomore Maria Vanezza Caldera (Tucson HS) freshman Bianca Castillo (Rio Rico HS) and sophomore Alese Casper received the honors.
Caldera, an outfielder, was second team All-ACCAC. She played in all 55 games during the regular season batting .401. She led the Aztecs with 60 RBIs and 23 walks and tied for the team-lead with 22 extra base hits (14 doubles and eight home runs). Caldera had 33 putouts and committed just two errors with a fielding percentage of .943 playing primarily out at left field.
Castillo, a right-handed pitcher, was selected third team All-ACCAC. She pitched 139.2 innings accumulating an 11-11 record and a 4.91 ERA with 83 strikeouts and 46 walks.
Casper, a utility player, was selected third team All-ACCAC for the second straight year. She led the Aztecs with a .451 batting average, 62 runs scored, 88 hits, five triples and 20 stolen bases as she played in all 55 games. She also had 13 doubles and 42 RBIs. Casper also pitched 79.0 innings with a 10-5 record and a 5.49 ERA.
The No. 4 seeded Aztecs will play No. 1 Arizona Western College to open the NJCAA Region I, Division I Tournament on Friday at 11:00 a.m. All the games for the double elimination tournament will be at Arizona Western College in Yuma.
