Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (1-0) opened the 2017-18 season on Saturday at the West Campus Gymnasium.
The Aztecs defeated the Arizona Christian University Prospect Development team 115-90. The Aztecs outscored the Firestorm 51-38 in the first half and 64-52 for the second half.
Sophomore Isaiah Murphy (Cienega HS) scored a game-high 26 points for the Aztecs on 10 for 12 shooting. Fellow sophomore Keven Biggs (Cienega HS) scored 19 of his 21 points in the second half and also grabbed six rebounds.
The Aztecs scored 54 points off the bench and were led by freshman Abram Carrasco (Cholla HS), who finished with 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Justin Bessard contributed with 14 points and eight rebounds while freshman Nik Nehls (Cheshire Academy) scored 12 points. Freshman Elloheim Clark (Apollo HS) finished the game with 10 points.
The Aztecs out-rebounded the Firestorm 51-36 for the game and also finished with 27 assists and 23 steals.
The Aztecs will continue non-conference play next Saturday, Nov. 11 when they host CMG Prep at the West Campus Gym at 2:00 p.m.
