(TUCSON, AZ) First-team 2018 NJCAA All-American setter Mahina Pua’a will continue her collegiate career at Arizona, joining her sister and fellow Iowa Western transfer Emi Pua’a
and the Wildcats for the 2019 season.
Mahina Pua’a led the NJCAA in assists per set in both her freshman (11.17) and sophomore (11.41) seasons, accumulating 3,127 total assists in just two seasons at Iowa Western. She was an all-conference player both seasons and was named first-team NJCAA All-American as a sophomore.
“Hina provides depth at a position that is considered the most important in the sport of volleyball,” said Arizona head volleyball coach Dave Rubio. “We’re excited to have her and can’t wait to get her on campus and begin training.”
In two seasons as the Reivers setter, Mahina Pua’a led the team to a pair of top-8 finishes in the NJCAA Tournament, including a third-place finish in 2018. In two seasons, Iowa Western went an incredible 77-7.
Mahina Pua’a becomes the third setter on the Wildcats’ roster, joining all-conference rising senior Julia Patterson and rising sophomore Julia Handy. Mahina Pua’a will have two years of eligibility remaining at Arizona.
Prior to her two years at Iowa Western, Pua’a was three-year letterwinner and all-state player at Punahou High School in Honolulu, Hawaii.
