(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (18-19, 14-16 in ACCAC) needed every bit of its offense in the second game against Central Arizona College (30-11, 23-9) on Tuesday at the West Campus Aztec Softball Field.
The Aztecs earned the split as freshman Bianca Castillo (Rio Rico HS) had both decisions on the mound.
Game 1: Central Arizona College Vaqueras 3, Pima CC Aztecs 1: The Aztecs took the lead but the Vaqueras scored two runs to break the tie in the top of the 7th inning.
The Aztecs got on the scoreboard first in the 4th inning. They loaded the bases with no outs and freshman Giselle Munoz (Salpointe Catholic HS) hit a sacrifice-fly RBI to score pinch runner Janice Garcia (Rio Rico HS). The Vaqueras tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the 5th with a leadoff solo home run.
Munoz finished 1 for 2 with an RBI. Sophomores Maria Vanezza Caldera (Tucson HS) and Alese Casper each went 2 for 3 for the game.
Castillo took the loss (6-8) as she pitched a complete-game giving up three runs (one earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Game 2: Pima CC Aztecs 12, Central Arizona College Vaqueras 11: The Aztecs padded its lead with two runs in the 6th inning and held on a 7th inning serge from the Vaqueras to hang on.
Up 10-6 in the 6th inning, sophomore Alizea Durazo-Corday (Pueblo HS) hit a leadoff solo home run. Later in the inning, sophomore Ariana Gomez (Sahuaro HS) hit an RBI single to score Amaya Turner-Vizcarra (Tucson HS) to make it 12-6. The Vaquerasscored five runs in the 7th inning. A lineout to Munoz ended the game with a runner stranded on second base.
The Aztecs plated six runs in the 3rd inning to take a 10-4 advantage. Sophomore Jessica Lozania (Sahuarita HS) and Caldera each drove in two runs while Durazo-Corday and Gomez had RBI singles in the inning.
Durazo-Corday was a flawless 4 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Gomez finished 3 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Lozania went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Turner-Vizcarra was 2 for 2 with three runs and Caldera finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run.
Castillo picked up the win relief as she pitched six innings giving up seven runs (seven earned) on 13 hits with one walk.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Field on Saturday when they host an ACCAC Division I match-up against Arizona Western College. First pitch is at 12:00 p.m.
