(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s tennis team (0-2) hosted No. 21 ranked Eastern Arizona College on Thursday at the West Campus Aztec Tennis Courts.
The Aztecs fell to the Gila Monsters 5-4.
Sophomore Ashley Fitzsimmons (Walden Grove HS) won in singles and doubles competition. She started the match playing at No. 2 doubles along with freshman Valeria Miranda (Sunnyside HS). The duo beat Ana Khabarova and Stephanie Bencomo 8-4. Fitzsimmons defeated Heidi Simons at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1.
Freshman Melina Oropeza (Nogales HS) avoided a third set as she beat Khabarova in her No. 2 singles match 6-3, 7-5. She led 4-1 in the second set and was able to close it out.
Freshman Jazmin Nunez (Cholla HS) won her No. 5 singles match over Tiffany Weech 6-1, 6-2.
Freshman Olivia Manheimer (Ironwood Ridge HS) fell in her No. 1 singles match to Clara Desbiolles 6-0, 6-4. Manheimer and Oropeza dropped their No. 1 doubles match 8-1 to Desbiolles and Simons.
Miranda lost a competitive match at No. 4 singles to Bencomo 6-4, 6-3.
The Aztecs were forced to forfeit their matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
The Aztecs get back to ACCAC conference play on Tuesday, Mar. 19 when they host Glendale Community College at the West Campus Tennis Courts. The match begins at 1:30 p.m.
