(Silverlake Park, KY) The Pima Community College women’s cross country claimed the runner-up team plaque on Friday at the ACCAC/NJCAA Region I Championship races held at Silverlake Park.
The women’s race was called due to weather conditions as it was in progress. There were no completed times but the Aztecs placed five runners in the top 15 to claim All-Region honors. Mesa Community College took first place with 19 points while the Aztecs took second place with 50 points.
Freshman Meredith Bauman (Flagstaff HS) took fourth place while fellow freshman Maysen White (Crismon HS) finished in seventh place as they were named First Team All-Region.
Freshmen Taylon Lund, Mayte Navarro (Nogales HS) and Damira Allen (Ganado HS) all earned Second Team All-Region honors. Lund placed 10th place while Navarro was 14th place and Allen finished in 15th place.
“The women’s race was interesting as we train to close harder that how we start, and although Mesa raced their top squad, we held out two of our top five competitors,” Pima cross country coach Jon Harmon said. “Our ladies are very young and will see this as a learning experience heading into nationals.”
The Aztecs will compete at the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 14 held at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, AL.
