Ava Dagnino posts a hat trick as Women’s Soccer earns seventh straight win

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (7-0, 4-0 in ACCAC) dominated on Tuesday in its ACCAC conference match against GateWay Community College (0-6, 0-4).

The No. 7 ranked Aztecs scored six goals in the first half and beat the Geckos 8-0 as the goal differential rule came into effect at 70 minutes of play. It was Pima’s sixth shutout win seven games.

Sophomore Ava Dagnino (Salpointe Catholic HS) scored a hat trick. She put the Aztecs up 2-0 with her score in the 8^th minute that was assisted by sophomore Yajaira Cervantes (Tucson Magnet HS). She netted her second goal in the 39^th minute with an assist from freshman Ava Rayman (Cienega HS) to put the score at 5-0. Dagnino secured the hat trick and the win with a goal in the 58^th minute that was assisted by sophomore Alyssa Allan.

Freshman Hazel Ramos (Cienega HS) scored two goals for the second straight game as she put Pima on the board in the 4^th minute and made it 4-0 with her score in the 16^th minute that was assisted by freshman Emily Valenzuela (Salpointe Catholic HS).

Allan closed out the game with a goal and three assists. She found the back of the net with her goal in the 15^thminute. She assisted in Ramos’s first goal and sophomore Kailyn O’Connell’s (Catalina Foothills HS) goal in the 44^th minute with one second remaining in the half to make it 6-0.

Freshman Ryan McCauley (Canyon del Oro HS) scored Pima’s seventh goal in the 57^th minute. Freshman Mandy Tran (Salpointe Catholic HS) had the assist.

The Aztecs outshot the Geckos 17-1 in on-goal attempts. Freshman Vanessa Ceja played the first half and had no saves. Freshman Amaya Andrade (Flowing Wells HS) took over in the second half and finished with one save.

The Aztecs will hit the road on Saturday for an ACCAC conference matchup at Glendale Community College. Game time is set for 7:45 p.m.
