(Tucson, AZ)   The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (5-0, 2-0 in ACCAC) earned a big win on Tuesday at the West Campus Aztec Field.

The No. 7 ranked Aztecs defeated No. 13 Phoenix College 2-0 earning their fourth shutout win in five games. It was Pima’s first regular season home win over the Bears (1-2, 1-1) since August 28, 2021, when the Aztecs were still playing at the Kino Sports Complex.

Sophomore Yajaira Cervantes (Tucson Magnet HS) put Pima on the scoreboard in the 42nd minute with her shot that was assisted by freshman Hazel Ramos (Cienega HS).

The Aztecs added insurance in the second half when freshman Ryan McCauley (Canyon del Oro HS) scored on a header in the box after the corner kick delivery from Cervantes in the 63rd minute.

The Aztecs outshot the Bears 14-8 in on-goal attempts. Sophomore Angelina Moraga (Sabino HS) closed out the match with eight saves.

This was Pima and Phoenix College’s first meeting since the Aztecs beat the Bears 2-1 in the Region I, Division II Final. The teams tied in their meetings during the regular season last year.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday when they host Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m.
