(Glendale, AZ) Scarlett Spring has been elected Chair of the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority (AZSTA) Board of Directors, and Teddy Eynon will serve as Vice Chair and Amilyn Pierce as Secretary.
With over 30 years of executive experience in bioscience, economic development and community leadership, Spring led cross-sector collaboration across academia, industry, clinical partners, innovators and governmental partners as the former Executive Director of the Phoenix Bioscience Core (PBC). She has served on two public boards, both with successful exits, and supports the ecosystem to advance Arizona’s reputation as a national leader in life sciences, health innovation, and translational research.
Spring was named one of Arizona Business Magazine’s 50 Most Influential Women and one of Arizona’s Top Business Leaders.
“I am honored to serve as AZSTA chair,” said Spring, who was appointed to the AZSTA Board as the Public Member by Gov. Katie Hobbs, effective July 1. “Maricopa County voters created AZSTA, and our mission is to enhance both our economy and our community’s quality of life. I look forward to helping the AZSTA Board carry out that mission through ownership of State Farm Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals. We will also strive to support the Cactus League, Arizona tourism, and youth and amateur sports programs across Maricopa County.”
Eynon is Partner, Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP, and Pierce is the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Vice President, Government Affairs.
The new leadership terms are for one year and began on July 1.
“This outstanding leadership team has long experience in Arizona sports and business circles,” AZSTA President and CEO Tom Sadler said. “Their vision and community ties will greatly benefit the organization.”
Gov. Hobbs also appointed the following members to the Board:
- Bridget Binsbacher, Cactus League Executive Director, representing Cactus League;
- Alix Skelpsa Ridgway, Director of the Arizona Office of Tourism, representing Tourism;
- Graham Rossini, Arizona State University Athletics Director, representing Youth & Amateur Sports.
The AZSTA Board of Directors is composed of nine citizens of Maricopa County who volunteer their time and accept no compensation or per diem. Board members are appointed to five-year terms by the Governor (5), the President of the Senate (2) and the Speaker of the House (2) and are eligible to serve two terms. Board appointees are appointed to achieve a balanced representation of the Valley’s regions as well as the tourism industry, Cactus League and youth sports.
