Turner Wins Co-MVP As Bucs Compete at GSAC Championships

(Aliso Viejo, CA)  The Park University Gilbert track and field team wrapped up the 2026 season at the CALPAC GSAC Championships this weekend, hosted by SOKA University of America in Aliso Viejo Calif.

The Buccaneers finished in third place against eight schools on the women’s side with 85.5 points, while the men finished in sixth against six teams with 52 points. Arizona Christian University won both the men’s and women’s meet, logging over 300 points on each side.

Park-Gilbert had plenty of strong individual performances that led to a competitive weekend and championship Saturday. The men and women’s teams combined for six first place finishes.

Mallory Turner was named female Co-MVP of the GSAC Championships following her impressive outing Turner claimed first place finishes in the 100m hurdles (15.11s), 400m hurdles (1:03.97). She also placed third in the high jump, an event won by fellow teammate Leighton Simmons with a distance of 1.56m.

Pauline Schmidt also had a standout performance, and was named female freshman Class D athlete of the meet. Schmidt won the triple jump event with a distance of 10.89m, and finished as the runner up in the long jump event (5.92). With 27 individual points, she finished in fifth place in the meet’s MVP rankings.

On the men’s side, Kohl Feather took home a first-place finish in the 100m hurdles on Saturday, posting a time of 15.05s. Feather also finished as the runner up in the 400m hurdles (56.62s). Brian Sparks was third in the 200m dash with a time of 27.78 seconds. The men’s high jump came down to the wire with Owen Olney and OUAZ’s Matthew Stauffer as they both marked 1.96m. Stauffer received 10 points and Olney received eight.

The Bucs return to the track this January for the indoor season, as Park-Gilbert heads into the summer preparing for the upcoming cross country season in the fall.
