(Glendale, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams competed in their final regular season meet on Saturday at the GCC Outdoor Invitational at Glendale Community College.
In men’s competition, freshman Andrew Smith (Tanque Verde HS) earned an NJCAA national qualifier in the 1,500-meter race after he took first place with a personal-best time of 3 minutes, 55.69 seconds.
In women’s competition, freshman Elizabeth Ugwu (Sahuaro HS) improved on her national qualifying mark in the Shot Put. She took second place with a throw of 13.52 meters (44-feet, 4.25-inches). She moved to third on the Pima Outdoor all-time list. It was the second straight week she earned a PR in the Shot Put as her previous best was set at 13.37 meters (43-10.50).
The Aztecs will compete at the Region I Multi’s & 10K Championships on Monday and Tuesday, April 20-21 at Mesa Community College.
