(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (36-5, 28-4 in ACCAC) won its 12th straight game on Saturday after picking up two shutout victories.
The No. 10 ranked Aztecs defeated Glendale Community College on the road. Sophomore Jiselle Nunez (Tucson Magnet HS) finished the day going 3-for-7 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Freshman Izabel Rodriguez (Sahuarita HS) went 2-for-7 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman Adriana Machado (Canyon del Oro HS) left her mark in the circle and at the plate while sophomore Sariah Ferrentino (Sabino HS) and Belen Camacho (Pueblo HS) combined for a shutout in the second game.
Game 1: (10) Pima Aztecs 7, Glendale Gauchos 0
Machado pitched a complete-game shutout as she gave up two hits with eight strikeouts and one walk on 95 pitches to pick up the win.
The Aztecs loaded the bases with two outs in the 2nd inning as Rodriguez hit a a three-run RBI triple to center field to bring around freshman Soleil Ponce (Sunnyside HS), sophomore Amerika Lopez-Bedoy (Sunnyside HS) and freshman Kayla Hendrix (Canyon del Oro HS) to make it 4-0. Rodriguez scored on sophomore Clarissa Figueroa’s (Mountain View HS) RBI single in the next at-bat to make it 5-0.
Nunez added to the lead with a two-run homer to center field in the 5th inning bringing in sophomore Julissa Lopez (Tucson Magnet HS). Nunez closed out the game going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with three RBIs and a run. Lopez-Bedoy hit an RBI single in the 2nd inning and was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run. Ponce finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Game 2: (10) Pima Aztecs 6, Glendale Gauchos 0: The Aztecs picked up their second shutout win of the day as Ferrentino and Camacho combined to hold off the Gauchos. Ferrentino got the win after she pitched five innings, giving up three hits with five strikeouts and one walk on 74 pitches. Camacho threw the final two innings with five strikeouts.
Nunez hit a two-run RBI triple in the 3rd inning bringing in Rodriguez and Figueroa. Nunez scored on a wild pitch as the Aztecs took a 4-0 lead.
Machado led off the 4th inning with a single and later scored on Rodriguez’s groundout to put the score at 5-0. Nunez scored on a fielder’s choice in the 5th inning to cap off Pima’s scoring.
Machado had an RBI single in the 2nd inning and finished the game going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Nunez went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Rodriguez was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run while freshman Isabel Mendoza (Cienega HS) finished 2-for-3 with a run.

The Aztecs will be back on the road on Tuesday when they play an ACCAC conference doubleheader at Paradise Valley Community College. The first game starts at 12:00 p.m.
