(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (4-6, 1-4 in ACCAC) surrendered a huge run in the third quarter, rallied back; but couldn’t overtake the lead late in the fourth quarter on Saturday.
The Aztecs fell to Scottsdale Community College 81-73 at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The Artichokes (4-6, 2-3) opened the third quarter on a 27-5 run in almost seven minutes to take a 61-40 advantage. The Aztecs closed out the quarter with a 13-0 run to take it down to a single digit deficit at 61-53.
Down 76-69 late in the fourth quarter, the Aztecs scored on two straight possessions to cut it to 76-73. The Artichokes scored on their next trip down court. Freshman Alyssa Perez (Marana HS) missed a shot and Scottsdale recovered the defense board with 21.3 seconds left. The Artichokes hit seven 3-pointers in the second half.
Sophomore Jacqulynn Nakai (Coconino HS) finished with a team-high 22 points and five assists. Freshman Hallie Lawson (Campo Verde HS) scored 15 points to go along with seven rebounds. Perez also scored in double figures for the Aztecs with 11 points. Perez also had four assists and three steals.
The Aztecs will hit the road on Wednesday when they play at Tohono O’odham Community College in Sells. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
