(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College baseball team (18-15, 11-11 in ACCAC) returned to the West Campus Aztec Field on Tuesday after a six-game road trip, to host Chandler-Gilbert Community College (18-17, 11-11).
Sophomore Jackson Glueck closed out the day going 4-for-7 with an RBI and two runs scored while freshman Cooper Kruk (Catalina Foothills HS) went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, a run scored and three walks. Freshman Adriel Figueroa-Brito finished the doubleheader 3-for-9 with three runs scored.
Sophomore Shawn Barros (Salpointe Catholic HS) and freshman Jesse Neretlis took the losses on the mound.
Game 1: Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes 8, Pima Aztecs 3
The Coyotes scored seven runs in the 2ndinning as the rally fell short for the Aztecs.
The Aztecs scored three runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning but left nine runners on base for the game.
Sophomore Matt MacDonald hit a lead-off double and Figueroa-Brito followed with a single in the 2nd inning. Two batters later, and with one out, sophomore Mike Jones (Canyon del Oro HS) sent the first pitch he saw over the left field fence for a three-run home run bringing around MacDonald and Figueroa-Brito to cut the deficit to 7-3.
The Coyotes tacked on a run in the 5th inning. The Aztecs loaded the bases with two outs in the 7th inning, but Figueroa-Brito struck out to end the game.
Jones finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. MacDonald went 1-for-2 with a run scored and Figueroa-Brito was 1-for-4 with a run.
Barros took the loss as he pitched one and one-third innings, giving up five runs (five earned) on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Game 2: Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes 15, Pima Aztecs 12 (F/8)
The Aztecs surrendered four runs in the 1st inning and were forced to play catch up as the teams went back and forth in an offensive onslaught.
Sophomore Ramon Martinez scored on an error and Glueck hit an RBI single to bring in sophomore Leon Cereceres as Pima cut it to 4-2.
The Coyotes scored six runs in the 5th inning, but the Aztecs countered with seven runs in the inning. Kruk drew a bases loaded walk and freshman Aciel Guillen (Salpointe Catholic HS) followed with a two-run RBI single to score freshman Owen Wade (Pinnacle HS) and Glueck. Two batters later, freshman Juan Hernandez (Tucson Magnet HS) drove in Kruk and Guillen with an RBI single to cap off the inning. The Aztecs trailed 10-9.
The Coyotes scored two runs in the top of the 6th, but the Aztecs countered with two of their own. Kruk hit a two-run RBI double to plate Wade and Glueck as Pima still faced a one-run deficit at 12-11. The teams exchanged runs in the 7th inning as well. Figueroa-Brito scored on an error to make it 13-12.
The Aztecs put two runners on base in the 8th inning, but two straight ground outs by Figueroa-Brito and Hernandez stranded the tying run at home plate.
Kruk finished the game 1-for-3 with three RBIs, a run and three walks while Glueck went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Hernandez was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run and Guillen finished 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a run. Wade closed it out, going 1-for-2 with two runs and Martinez went 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Figueroa-Brito was 2-for-5 with two runs and Wade finished 1-for-2 with two runs.
Neretlis took the loss as he pitched four and two-third innings, giving up seven runs (five earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and four walks on 85 pitches.

The Aztecs will head right back to the West Campus Aztec Field on Wednesday for a single game against Okotoks (Canada). First pitch is at 12:00 p.m.
