(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s track & field team competed in its third meet of the Indoor season on Saturday at the CAC Invitational held at Central Arizona College.
The No. 15 ranked Aztecs were highlighted by a new school record, two new NJCAA national qualifying marks and an improved qualifier.
Freshman Elizabeth Ugwu (Sahuaro HS) broke the Pima school record in the Shot Put as she took first place with a throw of 13.13 meters (43-feet, 1-inch) on her third attempt. Her mark broke Becky Levi’s previous record of 43-0 set in 1982. It also gave her a national qualifying mark.
Freshman Cayla Jones (Cienega HS) earned a national qualifier in the Triple Jump as she took second place with a mark of 11.44 meters (37-6.50) on her third attempt. It put her eighth on the Pima all-time list.
Sophomore Kymia Bridgett improved on her national qualifier in the Triple Jump as she took first place with a mark of 12.11 meters (39-8.75). She moved into the second spot on the Pima Indoor records list. She had previously set her qualifier at 12.02 meters (39-5.50).
The Aztecs will compete at the GCC Indoor Multi’s on Friday and the GCC Invitational on Saturday in Glendale.
