Neretlis throws four innings out of the bullpen to get the win as Baseball rallies to sweep College of Southern Idaho

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College baseball team (4-0) closed out its series on Sunday with the College of Southern Idaho at the West Campus Aztec Field.

The No. 21 ranked Aztecs rallied to beat the Golden Eagles 6-3 earning a four-game sweep to start the 2026 season. The Aztecs scored four unanswered runs to take the lead for good.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 6th inning, freshman Nate Shoemaker (Catalina Foothills HS) tied the game with an RBI single to score sophomore Matt MacDonald, who drew a lead-off walk. Shoemaker advanced to second on sophomore Max Leyva’s (Tucson Magnet HS) walk and moved to third base on a groundout. Showmaker scored on a passed ball to give Pima the lead for good.

Sophomore Leon Cereceres hit a lead-off single in the 7th inning and two batters later scored on sophomore Jackson Glueck’s fielder’s choice grounder to make it 5-3.

Sophomore Ramon Martinez capped off Pima’s scoring in the 8th inning when he hit an RBI single to bring in freshman Adriel Figueroa-Brito, who had singled with two outs in the inning.

The Aztecs got on the scoreboard in the 1st inning when Glueck hit an RBI single to score Cereceres and sophomore Mike Jones (Canyon del Oro HS) grounded out but got an RBI after Glueck touched home plate.

The Aztecs led 2-0 but the Golden Eagles scored one run in each the 2nd, 4th and 5th innings to take the lead.

Cereceres finished the game 3 for 5 with two runs scored while Glueck was 1 for 4 with two RBIs and a run. Shoemaker went 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run while Martinez closed it out going 1 for 4 with an RBI. Figueroa-Brito was 1 for 4 with a run.

 Freshman Jesse Neretlis picked up the win in relief as he pitched four innings, giving up one hit with seven strikeouts and one walk on 56 pitches.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Field on Friday and Saturday for a three-game series with Yavapai College. The teams will face off for a single game on Friday that begins at 1:30 p.m.
