Mason Hunt has game-high 28 points as six Aztecs score in double figures in win over Chemeketa CC

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (12-0) returned from the holiday break and opened play in the Aztec Winter Classic on Monday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

The No. 8 ranked Aztecs outscored Chemeketa Community College (OR) by double figures in each half to win 105-62.

The Storm took an early five-point lead in the first minute of the game, but the Aztecs took control and held a 63-30 advantage at the break.

Six Aztecs scored double figures for the game. Sophomore Mason Hunt (Bradshaw Mountain HS) led the way with a game-high 28 points as he went 9 for 19 from the field and hit four 3-pointers.

Freshman Isaiah Hill (Premier Prep Academy) shot 7 for 8 from the field and scored 16 points to go with six assists and three rebounds.

Sophomore Isaac Johnson fell short of a double-double as he had 13 points on 5 for 7 shooting with nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Freshman Rowan McKenzie (Boulder Creek HS) closed it out with 11 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Sophomore Brock Mendoza posted a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds while freshman Gerron Graham (Premier Prep Academy) contributed with 10 points, nine assists and six rebounds off the bench.

The Aztecs shot 58.1 percent (42-74) from the field and 75 percent (12-16) from the free throw line. They outscored the Storm 54-18 in the paint and won the rebound battle 50-27.

The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Tuesday for the second day of the Aztec Winter Classic. They will face off against Community Christian College at 2:00 p.m.
