Tucson Falls and Suffers Three-Way Loss

(Culiacán, Sinaloa) For the third consecutive night, the Tucson baseball team succumbed to the Tomateros de Culiacán, this time by a score of 4-1 in the final game of the series in the Sinaloa capital.

With a home run by J.P. Martínez, the Tomateros took the lead in the very first inning against Zoé Carrillo, who ended up being the losing pitcher tonight.

Luis Verdugo drove in a run in the third inning, hitting a single that brought Jon Singleton home with the second run of the game.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Tomateros increased their lead to 3-0 with Orlando Martínez’s eighth home run of the season, which he launched over the fence between center and right field.

Tucson broke the shutout in the top of the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly by Jesús Fabela, allowing River Town to score on a sacrifice fly from third base, making the score 3-1.

The score became 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh with a home run by J.P. Martínez, his second of the night and tenth of the season.

The winning pitcher, Fineas Del Bonta-Smith, pitched five innings with one strikeout and one walk, while Anthony Gose earned the save, his 12th of the season.

Next Tuesday, Tucson will host the Venados at Teodoro Mariscal Stadium in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, for a three-game series in the Sinaloa port city.
