(HONOLULU, HI) Aari McDonald and Cate Reese were unstoppable today, leading the Arizona Wildcats (2-1) to a 84-54 win over Seattle U (0-3) in Honolulu on Friday afternoon. McDonald followed up her 39-point effort with 25 today while Reese had 21 of her own. The two shot a combined 20-30 (67%) from the field.
As a team, the Wildcats shot 52% from the field and held the Redhawks to 35% shooting.
Destiny Graham also pitched in 10 points off the bench on 4-4 shooting and Lucia Alonso tied her career high with nine assists. Semaj Smith also gave some good minutes off the bench, scoring eight points on 4-5 shooting and blocked three shots.
Arizona jumped on the Redhawks from the get go, starting out the first quarter up 13-4 and ending the period up 19-10. McDonald scored nine points in the first quarter and went off again in the second, scoring 12 more to give her 21 at the half, leading Arizona into the locker room up 42-22. Reese also pitched in 10 first-half points and Sam Thomas knocked down a three at the buzzer.
Reese got hot in the third quarter, scoring nine points and helped Arizona score a game-high 26 points in the quarter. Seattle U also had their best quarter, but the lead was still extended as the Wildcats went into the fourth up 68-42. Arizona was able to get everyone in the game in the fourth quarter and still kept up the intensity, outscoring Seattle U 16-12 and gave Arizona the 30-point victory.
The Wildcats will finish up the Hawaii trip on Sunday afternoon against Portland at 3 p.m. MST.
