Huntsman and Sulpizio earn All-American honors in Pole Vault after Day One at NJCAA Outdoor Nationals

(Hutchinson, KS)  The Pima Community College men’s track & field team completed the first day of competition at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor National Championships on Thursday at Gowans Stadium in Hutchinson, Kansas.

The No. 7 ranked Aztecs closed out the day tied for fourth place in the team standings out of 23 teams with a total of 10 points.

Sophomore Carter Huntsman and freshman Ketch Sulpizio (Gila Ridge HS) became two-time NJCAA Division I All-Americans for this season with their finishes in the Pole Vault.
Huntsman earned his third All-American nod for his Pima career after he finished in third place with a mark of 4.76 meters (15-feet, 7.50-inches) on his second attempt. He secured six team points for the Aztecs.
Sulpizio finished in fifth place with a closing vault of 4.66 meters (15-3.50) on his second attempt. He earned four team points for Pima.

Other Pima finishes in day one of the NJCAA Division I Outdoor National Championships:

Louis Madrigal-Diaz (North Canyon HS), Hollace Neasham (Canyon del Oro HS), Evan Rasoumoff(Catalina Foothills HS), Tayvien Biancuzzo (Mica Mountain HS) – 13th place in 4×800 meter relay 7:50.73 (PR)

Benjamin Morgan (Sabino HS) – 16th place in Hammer Throw 44.13 meters (144-9)

Nasir Tucker – 17th place in Long Jump 6.65 meters (21-9.75)

The Aztecs are right back at it on Friday for the second day of competition at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor National Championships. Competition begins at 9:00 p.m. (CT); 7:00 a.m. Tucson time.
