(Tempe, AZ) Sun Devil Softball returned from their five game road trip and was held scoreless for the fifth time this season in a 4-0 loss to GCU on Tuesday night at Farrington Stadium. The final non-conference game of the regular season was the first of four at home this week for ASU.
Meika Lauppe gave Arizona State another strong outing in the circle. She was able to limit GCU to four runs despite allowing 12 hits by holding the Lopes to a 2-for-10 performance with runners in scoring position. GCU left 10 runners on base, including multiple runners in three different innings.
ASU struggled to find success at the plate and didn’t get a hit until AJ Murphy singled in the third. The Sun Devils loaded the bases later in the inning but failed to bring a run home. They put two runners on in the seventh, but again were unable to find the necessary hit to bring a run home.
Murphy finished with two of the team’s five total hits to lead the team.
Notable
- Ho-Ching extended her hitting streak to six games and has a hit in 14 of the last 15.
- The freshman is up to 50 hits for the season, which is second on the team.
- Murphy recorded her sixth multi-hit game of the season.

On turning the page and getting ready for Baylor
“I’ve said this many times, our kids didn’t come here to play and have fun, those kids came here to chase Oklahoma City.”
Senior Utility AJ Murphy
On the difficulty of execution during low-performing games and how they’ll move forward:
“Capturing momentum when there’s not a lot happening, we’ve got to be better at that. They (GCU) were better, and we saw what happened with them. Build off this series, learning, and having fun. The big thing is doing it together and knowing that we’re fighting for it at the end of the day.”
Up Next
The Sun Devils will look to bounce back in their final home series of the season against Baylor, which starts on Thursday for Group Appreciation Night at 6 p.m. AZT at Farrington Stadium.
