(San Luis Obispó, CA)  Ending the weekend on a high note, No. 12 Sun Devil Beach Volleyball took down No. 7 Florida State 3-2 to wrap up the COE Challenge on Saturday afternoon, which followed a 4-1 loss to No. 4 LMU in the morning.

Arizona State (18-12) earned its seventh ranked win of the year and first top 10 win this season. Under second-year head coach Kristen Glattfelder, this is ASU’s third top-10 win. Arizona State now has a 7-12 record against ranked opponents this year after dropping the first dual today to LMU (28-5) before upsetting FSU (23-10).

Junior Tori Clement reached her 50th career win against Florida State. Coming into the season, she had 31 while at Stetson, and this year she has compiled a 19-11 record, which is second-highest on the team. Against FSU, she partnered with junior Arden Besecker on court five, winning their match in straight sets.

The lone point against LMU came from sophomores Olivia McElroy and Ava Williamson on court three. For Williamson, that was her 20th win of the season (20-11), which leads the team. She is now tied for ninth for individual single season wins in ASU history. Williamson is also 10th for career individual wins at ASU with a 44-17 record.

Game One: No. 4 LMU 4, No. 12 ASU 1

With a different pair across all five courts for ASU, the result was unfortunately the same as when the team faced Loyola Marymount at the start of the season. Four of the five courts were two-set victories. Court three, with a new pairing of McElroy and Williamson, saw the Sun Devils take the first set. The Lions forced a third, but McElroy and Williamson were able to hold on and win, 15-11 in the third.

Game Two: No. 12 ASU 3, No. 7 FSU 2

The Sun Devils got off to a hot start, winning four of the first five first sets. The Seminoles made it close down the stretch, forcing a few third sets. Three of the five matches went to three sets, though two of ASU’s three points came in sweeps. Besecker and Clement on five got their match done quickly, followed by another sweep from Kensinger and Pemberton on three. The clinch came from Kirunchyk and Morin on the top court, who battled back to force a third after losing the first set.
