(Irving, TX) Four from Sun Devil Gymnastics were named to the All-Big 12 Team for four events: Sarah Clark (bars), Jada Mangahas (vault), Kimberly Smith (all-around) and Emily White (floor, all-around).
In Arizona State’s first season in the Big 12, the team made a mark in the conference awards. This is the first all-conference honor for all four of the Sun Devils. For the first time since 2021, Arizona State has four or more conference honors. It is the first time since 1986 that four or more individuals were honored in the same season. In eight of the last nine seasons, ASU has had at least one gymnast earn all-conference honors in the all-around. This is the first time since 2020 that two Sun Devils received conference honors in the all-around.
The teams feature the top six ranked athletes in vault, bars, beam, floor and the all-around, based on the National Qualifying Score (NQS). For the complete list of honorees, head to the conference website.
The anchor for bars all season, graduate Sarah Clark has been stellar for the Sun Devils. She has scored a 9.800 or better in all but one meet. She has three scores of 9.925, which is her season high. Additionally, she has three event titles on bars this year. Clark is the first to earn bars honors since 2021.
Graduate Jada Mangahas has been the anchor on vault for the majority of the season and is the only Sun Devil to have scored a 9.900 on the event. She has reached that mark, which is her career high, twice. On vault, she has scored a 9.800 or better all but twice, and she also has two event titles on vault. Mangahas is the fourth in the last five years to earn vault conference honors for ASU.
In the all-around in all but one meet this season, junior Kimberly Smith has had a break-out year for Arizona State. Peaking at the right time, she has scored at least a 39.300 in the all-around in three of the last four meets she has done the all-around. Her best is a 39.350, which she earned against West Virginia. Her best in each event this season is a 9.850 on vault, 9.925 on bars, 9.825 on beam and 9.900 on floor. She has one all-around event title win this season.
Graduate Emily White has been a prominent factor for the Gym Devils. She has earned an all-around score of 39.100 or higher in eight meets this season. On top of that, the graduate has earned a score of 9.900 or higher nine times this season, with six of them coming on floor. In event titles, she has a team-best 14, including four in the all-around and four on floor.
The team is competing it is first BIg 12 Gymnastics Championship this Saturday. ASU is No. 4 seed, competing in the evening session at 4 p.m. MST/5 p.m. MDT on ESPNU.
