(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College baseball team (26-8) played a non-conference doubleheader on Monday against the Okotoks Baseball Club from Alberta, Canada at the West Campus Aztec Baseball Field.
Freshman Max Leyva (Tucson Magnet HS) finished the day 3 for 6 with three RBIs while freshman Diego Garcia (Salpointe Catholic HS) and sophomore Alex Gilliam picked up the wins on the mound.
Game 1: (15) Pima Aztecs 4, Okotoks Baseball Club Dawgs 3
The Aztecs rallied from a three-run deficit and scored two in the 7th inning to take the first game.
Freshman Matt MacDonald hit a sacrifice-fly RBI to score freshman Leon Cereceres to win it. Sophomore Caden Richards led off the inning with a single. With one, out Cereceres drove an RBI single to score Richards and tie the game at 3-3.
The Aztecs trailed 3-0 in the 4th inning but cut into Okotoks’ lead when Leyva hit a two-run RBI single to left field to plate MacDonald and freshman Mike Jones (Canyon del Oro HS) to make it 3-2.
The Dawgs scored their three runs in the top of the 4th inning.
Leyva finished the game 2 for 3 with two RBIs while MacDonald had an RBI, a run and two walks. Cereceres was 1 for 1 with an RBI and a run and Richards went 1 for 3 with a run scored.
Garcia picked up the win in relief as he pitched one and two-third innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout. Freshman Shawn Barros (Salpointe Catholic HS) started the game and pitched five and one-third innings, giving up three runs (three earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts.

Game 2: (15) Pima CC Aztecs 3, Okotoks Baseball Club Dawgs 1
The Aztecs rallied once again as the Dawgs took the lead in the 1st inning and the Aztecs put together their rally late in the game.
Down 1-0 in the 6th inning, sophomore Collin Senior (Horizon HS) reached base with a single. Sophomore Andrew Grenert (Horizon HS), who came in as a pinch runner, advanced to third base on an error. Freshman Jackson Glueck hit an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1. After Cereceres’ sacrificed him over to second base, freshman Sean Barta put the Aztecs ahead with an RBI single to score Glueck. The Aztecs added some insurance when Leyva hit an RBI single to bring in Barta.
Glueck closed out the game going 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Barta went 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run while Leyva finished 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Gilliam picked up the win after he pitched six innings, giving up one run (none earned) on one hit with six strikeouts and one walk. Sophomore Taylin Oana picked up the save after pitching the 7th inning. He got three straight groundout plays to end the game.
