(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (23-1) hosted a non-conference doubleheader on Friday at the West Campus Aztec Field against Miles Community College (11-8).
The Aztecs picked up the sweep over the Pioneers as sophomore Alyssa Noriega (Pueblo HS) closed out her day going 4 for 7 with five RBIs and two runs scored while freshman Jiselle Nunez (Tucson Magnet HS) finished 3 for 5 with five RBIs, three runs and two walks.
Sophomore Aubrey Marx (Cienega HS) went 4 for 7 with an RBI and four runs and sophomore Talia Martin (Mountain View HS) finished 3 for 6 with two RBIs, four runs and three walks. Freshman Taiya Teixeira (Salpointe Catholic HS) was 4 for 7 with an RBI and two runs while sophomore Natalya Rivera (Sunnyside HS) went 3 for 7 with three RBIs and two runs. Freshmen Arianna Flores (Salpointe Catholic HS) and Belen Camacho (Pueblo HS) got the wins in the circle and sophomore Jessica Thompson (Tanque Verde HS) picked up a save.
Game 1: (5) Pima Aztecs 10, Miles Pioneers 1 (5 innings)
The Aztecs hit three home runs in the game and scored four runs in each the 3rd and 5th innings to get the run rule win.
Rivera put the Aztecs on the board in the 2nd inning with a two-run shot that sailed over the fence and scored Noriega to make it 2-0.
In the 3rd inning, Martin reached on an error and Marx hit a single to set up Nunez’s three-run homer to center field to add to Pima’s lead at 5-0.
Freshman Amerika Lopez-Bedoy (Sunnyside HS) hit an RBI double in the 3rd inning and came through with a solo home run in the 5th inning. Teixeira hit an RBI double to score sophomore Uriah Burrell (Catalina Foothills HS) and Martin followed with a walk-off two-run RBI double to bring in freshman Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View HS) and Teixeira to end the game
Lopez-Bedoy finished the game 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored while Nunez went 1 for 3 with three RBIs and a run. Rivera was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run and Martin finished 1 for 3 with two RBIs and a run. Teixeira closed out the game 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run. Marx and Noriega each went 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Flores picked up her 10th win of the season as she pitched all five innings, giving up one run (none earned) on three hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk on 93 pitches.

Game 2: (5) Pima Aztecs 11, Miles Pioneers 8:
The Aztecs built a lead and was able to hold off a rally in the end to earn the sweep.
The Aztecs fell behind after the Pioneers scored three runs in the 1st inning. Noriega hit an RBI single to put Pima on the scoreboard in the 1st inning.
The Aztecs put up a five-spot in the 2nd inning as Marx and Nunez had back-to-back RBI hits to tie the game at 3-3. Rivera put the Aztecs ahead with an RBI single to drive in Marx. Sophomore Cheyanne Ortiz (Tucson Magnet HS) added some insurance as she hit a two-run RBI double to score Nunez and Rivera as Pima led 6-3.
Nunez added to the lead with an RBI single in the 3rd and Noriega hit a grand slam in the 4th inning to score Martin, Marx and Nunez as the Aztecs took an 11-4 lead. The Pioneers countered with a grand slam of their own in the 6th inning. Thompson got her first save of the season after she pitched the 7th inning, giving up one hit with two strikeouts and one walk.
Noriega closed out the game going 2 for 4 with five RBIs and a run while Nunez finished 2 for 2 with two RBIs, two runs and two walks. Martin and Marx combined to go 4 for 7 with six runs scored and three walks. Ortiz was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Rivera went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run. Teixeira finished 3 for 4 with a run.
Camacho picked up the win, pitching six innings, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits with 10 strikeouts and five walks.

The Aztecs turn around and head back to the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday when they host Glendale Community College in an ACCAC conference doubleheader. First game starts at noon.
