(Tempe, AZ) In the first of four straight home games, Sun Devil Lacrosse (4-2) topped Saint Joseph’s (1-5) 13-12 in Saturday’s nail-biter at Sun Devil Soccer/Lacrosse Stadium. Junior attacker Lydia Oldknow’s team-high four goals led Arizona State to their undefeated start at home to open the season.
“That was a hard-fought 60 minutes. We capitalized when we needed to and made stops when we needed to in order to get the win,” said head coach Taryn VanThof after her team’s gritty performance.
How it Happened
Bella Ingrao, Jordyn Behar and Lydia Oldknowcombined for goals to give the Sun Devils an early 3-0 lead. Saint Joseph’s got on the board late in the first quarter, however goals from Teagan Ng and Behar reclaimed the momentum for ASU, who led 5-1 after the first frame.
The second quarter was explosive, as both teams combined for eight goals split evenly. Lydia Oldknow’stwo goals in the quarter marked her second and third of the contest, and the Sun Devils carried a 9-5 lead into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, Oldknow notched her fourth goal of the day to make it 10-5 ASU. Saint Joseph’s then proceeded to score four-straight goals to cut the lead to one. A crucial third goal from Behar gave ASU an 11-9 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was intense with the teams trading goals. Goals from Izzi Hammond and Annie Haleyproved to be the difference as Arizona State held off Saint Joseph’s to secure a 13-12 victory.

- Prior to today, ASU was 5-6 all-time in games decided by one goal.
- Senior goalkeeper Katie Vahle is 32 saves away from tying the all-time program record after recording eight against Saint Joseph’s.
