(Santa Clarita, CA)  The first two matchups between these two teams were shootouts and this game was no different as the Park University Gilbert women’s basketball teams season came to an end after a 93-85 loss to The Master’s University tonight at The MacArthur Center.

The Buccaneers finish the 2024-25 campaign with a 14-11 record but they were as entertaining a team as any in the country. Tonight was no different.

These two teams combined for 529 points in their three games they played and only once did one of the teams not score at least 80 points.

The first quarter showed the problem the Buccaneers have had in every matchup with the Mustangs. Rebounding. Especially on the offensive glass. The Bucs were outrebounded 15-5 in the first frame including eight on the offensive glass and this led to 12 second chance points in the period. TMU shot 54.5 percent from the floor and held a seven-point lead at the first break.

TMU opened the game up in the second quarter, as the Bucs shooting went cold allowing the Mustangs to take a 17-point lead at the half. They continued to use their size to their advantage scoring 12 points in the paint for the quarter and 22 in the half. TMU also increased its rebounding margin to 13 (28-15). TMU shot 62 percent from the floor in the second stanza and 57 percent for the first half.

The third quarter saw the Bucs cut into the Mustangs advantage outscoring them 28-23. Hemani Kalia led the charge with nine points as she went 3-3 from three. The Bucs cut down on the offensive rebounds and second chance points in the frame. TMU still shot 50 percent from the floor.

The fourth quarter gave Buccaneer fans hope for another miraculous comeback as the Bucs started the quarter on an 10-2 run to cut the lead three with just under five minutes to play. But coming out of the media time out TMU went on an 8-0 run to take the lead back to 11 and the Bucs were never able to recover.

The Bucs stayed in the game on the shoulders of junior Alynna Palacios who showed why she won GSAC Defensive player of the Year this season and also showed she is no slouch on the offensive end of the floor. Palacios set career highs with both 27 points and 16 rebounds, She also had four steals and three assists. Her previous highs were 24 points and 13 rebounds.

Senior Kayla Schroeder finished her Park career with 16 points, and five assists. Kalia, a redshirt junior finished with 15 points, making five three-point baskets. Kalia, who started the year getting back into game shape after missing last year with a knee injury found her form down the stretch scoring in double digits in six of her last seven games. Senior Savannah Huerta concludes her career with a 13-point effort and three assists.

The Bucs set new season team records for 3pt-FG made, attempted and percentage, points per game and free throw percentage, They also set the record for threes in a game with 20 and did it twice. The previous record was 14 and the Bucs bested this mark nine times this season. As a team the Bucs were second in the nation in 3pt-FG made and made per game.
