Challenging Week Ends with a Pair of Setbacks

(Queen’s Beach, HI)  Wrapping up a weekend of tough competition, No. 11 Sun Devil Beach Volleyball fell to both No. 7 Loyola Marymount and No. 5 Stanford on Saturday.

Arizona State (1-5) had a challenging week, facing six top-12 teams to start the season. Today, the Sand Devils mixed up some lineups in the three, four and five spots. Sophomore Kaydon Meyers and junior Carys Thomas made their season debuts. For Meyers, it was her Sun Devil debut. 

Game One: No. 7 LMU 5, No. 11 ASU 0
Court three won its first set, but Loyola Marymount (5-1) was able to come away with the victory in a sweep. Arden Besecker and Ava Haughy continued their strong play from the week by dominating their first set at the No. 3 spot, 21-13, but they fell in the next two sets.

It was a tough ending to a challenging week for the Sun Devils as they fell to the Cardinal in straight sets on all courts.

Next weekend, Arizona State will play in the Cactus Classic in Tucson, Arizona. ASU will face Boise State and Stetson on February 28 before playing Oregon and Grand Canyon on March 1.
