(Pittsburgh, PA)  Sun Devil Lacrosse battled for a 14-11 victory over Pittsburgh on Wednesday behind junior attacker Teagan Ng’s career-high seven goals, five of which came in the second half.

Head coach Taryn VanThof praised her team’s fight, “this was a great way for us to end the road trip, and I’m excited to play at home this weekend with two wins under our belt.”

In a game where neither team gained momentum, Arizona State’s defense stood strong in the fourth quarter, allowing just one goal, while the offense was able to net four goals in the period.

How it Happened

The Sun Devils jumped on the board first with Bella Ingrao’s goal immediately after winning the draw. Pittsburgh netted two goals to take a 2-1 lead, but goals from Jordan Behar and Teagan Ng delivered a 3-2 lead as the first quarter came to a close.

In the second frame, Izzi Hammond netted her first career goal to push the lead to two. Pittsburgh managed to even the score at four, and tack on a fifth goal with just over two minutes remaining. Back-to-back goals from Lydia Oldknow and Teagan Ng with under 60 seconds remaining pushed the ASU lead to 6-5 at the half.

Pitt outscored ASU 5-4 in the third quarter after six draw controls in the quarter gave them the majority of the possessions. ASU and Pittsburgh were tied at 10-10 at the half.

In the fourth quarter, Oldknow had the Sun Devils on the board 30 seconds into the frame, and Ng followed with one of her own which produced the largest lead of the game, three, for either team. Ng tacked on two more goals in the fourth while Pittsburgh netted just one, and ASU held on to secure the 14-11 victory.
