(Aliso Viejo, CA) For the fifth time this season a Park University Gilbert women’s basketball player is taking home the GSAC Offensive Player of the Week Award. For the second time this season, Savannah Huerta is the Bucs player to take home the hardware this week for her performance during the week of February 3-9.
Huerta (2x), Kayla Schroeder (2X) and Aubry Saleapaga have earned the kudos of the conference player of the week this year as overall the Bucs have taken home Offensive or Defensive Player of the Week eight times in the 2024-25 season.
Huerta had two 20-point games this week, her seventh and eighth 20-plus point contests this season. She scored 21 points against The Masters, hitting four three-pointers. She then followed it with a 20-point performance against Embry Riddle. All 20 points were scored in the second half as she helped spur a come from behind win against the Eagles. She knocked down six three-pointers in this game to give her 10 over the two games.
Huerta has had a prolific three-point shooting season, making 83 three-point shots which leads the NAIA. She leads the NAIA despite playing 2-3 games fewer than anyone else in the top 10. She is averaging almost 4 three-point baskets per game (3.95). Twelve times this season (in 21 games) she has made four or more three-point baskets. She has also been exquisite from the charity stripe making 36-37 free throws so far this season (97 percent).
Huerta leads the Bucs into two key contests this week as they travel to Glendale, Ariz., to take on No. 13 Arizona Christian on Wednesday, February 12 at 5:30 p.m. and then host Benedictine Mesa at Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Saturday, February 16 at noon.
