Pima Community College women’s cross country runner KatherineBruno (Canyon del Oro HS) was recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday for the second straight year.
Bruno, a sophomore, was named NJCAA Division I National Athlete of the Week on Monday. She is the only Pima cross country runner to be become a two-time NJCAA Division I National Athlete of the Week. She received her first honor on Oct. 9 of last season.
Bruno took first place out of 63 competitors at the Mesa CC Thunderbird Classic on Saturday. She finished the 5K (3.1 miles) race with a time of 18 minutes, 09.4 seconds. She was 39 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Bruno is also coming off her first place finish at the ACCAC Championships on Sept. 26 repeating as conference champion.
The Aztecs will compete in the Mt. SAC CC Invitational on Friday in Walnut, CA. The women’s race is at 10:00 a.m. and the women’s race will follow at 10:45 a.m.
