Pima Community College football player Diamante Burton was golden on kickoff returns in Pima’s win last Saturday and it earned him conference recognition.
Burton, a freshman return specialist/slot receiver, was named WSFL Special Teams Player of the Week.
He had two kickoff returns for 142 yards (71 yard average). With the Aztecs up 13-9, he scored on a 95-yard kickoff return for the score late in the third quarter to give the Aztecs a much-needed cushion on their lead. The Aztecs beat No. 4 Scottsdale Community College 23-9.
Burton is nominated for NJCAA National Player of the Week consideration.
This is the third straight week the Aztecs have produced a WSFL Player of the Week. Freshman kicker Jaime Avila ((Marana HS) was named Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 18 and freshman quarterback Brooks Ringer was named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 25.
The Aztecs (3-1, 2-0 in WSFL) return to Kino North Stadium on Saturday to host Glendale Community College (1-5, 0-2) at 7:00 p.m.
