Kiley Sours-Miller’s double-double, Buffill-Gutierrez’s 12 points push Women’s Basketball passed Glendale CC

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (17-3, 9-1 in ACCAC) picked up its eighth straight victory on Saturday after beating Glendale Community College (6-11, 4-5) at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

The No. 10 ranked Aztecs bested the Gauchos 59-40 as they used a 14-5 run in the third quarter and a 12-5 run in the fourth quarter to pull away.

The Aztecs scored the final two points of the first quarter and carried the momentum into the second quarter turning it into an 11-0 run to take their first double digit lead at 24-13. Despite the run, the Aztecs scored just nine points in the second stanza and took a 24-16 lead at halftime. The Gauchos were held scoreless for the first eight minutes of the second quarter and scored just three points.

The score was tied five times with six lead changes in just the first quarter alone.

Freshman Kiley Sours-Miller was difficult to contain in the second half as she finished with her ninth double-double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds. She was 10 for 16 from the field and had three blocks and two assists.

Sophomore Amelie Buffill-Gutierrez (Sabino HS) scored eight of her 12 points in the second half as she grabbed five rebounds and had two assists.

Freshman Lucy Land finished with nine points off the bench as she shot 4 for 8 from the field and hit Pima’s only three-pointer of the game. The Aztecs were 1 for 10 from beyond the arc for the game.

Sophomore Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) contributed with seven points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Freshman Kennedi Niemann posted seven points to go with four rebounds and four assists.

The Aztecs will face off against No. 5 ranked Mesa Community College on Wednesday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. Pima will look to avenge their 74-57 loss to the Thunderbirds on Dec. 11 in Mesa.
