(Tucson, AZ) Pima Community College men’s basketball players Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite HS) and Wes Ball (Marana HS) earned praise from the ACCAC conference as the standouts earned awards in two consecutive weeks.
Gonzales, a sophomore guard, was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week for Week 10 while Ball earned his ACCAC Division II Player of the Week award for Week 9.
Gonzales scored 31 points against Central Arizona College on Dec. 28 and put up another 31 points against No. 4 ranked Salt Lake Community College (Division I) on Dec. 30. He has averaged 22.3 points, 6.3 assists and 2.8 rebounds in the last four games. He shot 55 percent from the field (32-58), 50 percent from beyond the arc (17-34) and 80 percent from the free throw line (8-10).
Gonzales has played and started in 13 games and is averaging 21.0 points, 6.1 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 2.2 steals. He is shooting 50 percent from the field, 45 percent from three-point range and is 86.3 percent from the foul line.
Ball averaged 16.0 points and 6.0 rebounds over the last four games; including a 27-point, 10-rebound double-double outburst in Pima’s 95-92 win over Dawson Community College. He shot 70 percent from the field (26-37) and 71 percent from the free throw line (12-17).
Ball has played and started in 16 games and is averaging 13.1 points and 8.1 rebounds. He is shooting 63.3 percent from the field and 79.6 percent from the foul line.
The Aztecs get back to ACCAC conference play on Saturday against Scottsdale Community College. The game is at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium with tipoff at 4:00 p.m.
